Big Prairie Restoration Begins!

Amazing day up at Big Prairie today!  And the first paintbrush that any of us had yet seen this season was there to greet us near the trailhead.

This view is looking south at the first thicket we cleared! Wonderful views in all directions and an abundance of lush grassland to be freed from the broom here;  you can almost see the tule elk and pronghorn antelope that so recently graced these sky-prairies.

Time to head back up there to take a bunch of “after” pictures, as it is Friday morning now! More soon!

Update on Sunday, 24 April:  I did head back up there and take a bunch of pictures, but they were mostly of flowers and rocks I saw along the way (see posts for Friday and Saturday!).  Shall have more on this broom pull v.soon, though, for the before-and-afters are dramatic and show how essential this work is to the survival of these prairies.
